Captain and Journey

Hi friends and welcome to my blog!  I’m so happy to meet you!  This is me, and…

my name is Meredith.  I’m an Austin mama.
I’ve done lots of different things in my life.  I had a 3 week career as a phone psychic at age 17.  I worked in a head shop shortly after and can tell you anything you want to know about waterpipes, underground comics, or personal massagers.  I lived with truck drivers being a dogsitter for free rent, and can outswear anyone as a result.  I’ve sold steaks over the phone, infiltrated the world of dentistry, and had a successful Real Estate stint until the bottom fell out of the economy in 2008.   My most rewarding job has been (and still is) as a stay-at-home mom to a teenager and a preschooler,

which keeps me pretty busy.  My husband’s name is Allen and you’ll hear about him, too.

I’m interested in all kinds of domestic-artsy things like cooking, gardening and knitting.  I’m great with the cooking, and pretty bad with knitting.  The gardening falls somewhere in between.
I’m really passionate about empowering girls and parents of girls, so you might see some articles or links from time to time about girl stuff.  One of my kiddos has special needs, so you might see some stuff about that, too.  As a matter of fact, I started Uncharted Waters to help me find my way through the turbulent time of diagnosis (start the story here) and adjustment to living with a child with special needs (more of the story here).  Waters are still sometimes rough, but I’ve found my compass.
We have a gluten and dairy-free diet as a result of our kiddo’s particular dietary issues.  I will definitely be posting food photos and recipes from time to time, so I hope you will be inspired at some point to enjoy those in your kitchen.
Finally, I love to write. This blog is a catch-all for my life and my brain, for better or for worse.  Such are brains.
This is your Captain speaking:
Thanks for coming, and let me know you stopped by, matey!
